Hello Everyone!
Welcome to Our Class and Our Webpage! Yes, that’s right OUR, because in our classroom we are a team and work together to grow our dendrites!
My name is Michelle Platt. I am a 5th grade teacher at Ortiz Elementary. I have a passion for teaching and believe you can achieve anything you put your mind to. Each and every child is unique and should be valued and treated with respect. This year we will work together to make ourselves, our classmates and our world a better place.
I am certified to teach early childhood to eighth grade and have a Bachelor’s of Science in Pathobiology (the study of diseases) and Animal Science from the University of Connecticut. Before I became a mom, I was a veterinary technician for many years and also worked at the University of Alaska studying hibernation in Arctic ground squirrels. To put it mildly, I LOVE SCIENCE!
My husband and I have a beautiful family with three children, a cat, and tortoise. Clyde is a Russian tortoise and would love to join us in the classroom this year! Abilene, Texas has been our home for 3 years but we have lived all over the world. I am so excited to share all we have learned in our travels with you. During the summer, I spend my free-time gardening and playing with my kids. In the winter, I like to scrapbook or snuggle up with a good book.
What do you enjoy? I look forward to getting to know all about you this school year!
